About the Author
Larry J. Siegel was born in the Bronx in 1947. While living on Jerome Avenue and attending City College of New York (CCNY) in the 1960s, he was swept up in the social and political currents of the time. He became intrigued with the influence contemporary culture had on individual behavior: Did people shape society, or did society shape people? He applied his interest in social forces and human behavior to the study of crime and justice. After graduating from CCNY, he attended the newly opened program in criminal justice at the State University of New York at Albany, earning both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees there. After completing his graduate work, Dr. Siegel began his teaching career at Northeastern University and has also held teaching positions at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, and in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell (UML). Now a Professor Emeritus, he continues to teach courses on criminology and criminal justice in UML'S online master's degree program. Dr. Siegel has written extensively in the area of crime and justice, including books on juvenile law, delinquency, criminology, corrections, criminal justice, and criminal procedure. He is a court-certified expert on police conduct and has testified in numerous legal cases.

Brandon C. Welsh is an Associate Professor in the College of Criminal Justice at Northeastern University as well as a Senior Research Fellow at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement at Free University in Amsterdam. His research interests focus on the prevention of crime and delinquency and evidence-based crime policy. Dr. Welsh has published extensively in these areas and is an author or editor of seven books. Born in Canada, he received his undergraduate and M.A. degrees at the University of Ottawa and his Ph.D. from Cambridge University in England.

Cassidy, a former Marine suffering from PTSD likes to eat cheeseburgers, wear jeans, and ride a Harley and Julia, an attorney with impeccable taste in clothing and equally bred as well meet in a bar and somehow can't ignore their initial physical attration, which at times borders on violent it is so hot. Despite the initial desperately hot physical attraction, gradually each sees in each other a certain tenderness, and maybe even a little understanding and safety. The journey they take together is full of emotion and angst which the author has craftily woven into a fantastic story. It's obvious there was a lot personal love written in this story by the author since the setting takes place in a tiny town in northern Minnesota called Embarass. Yes, it does exist and it's nestled amonst thousands of acres of beautiful forest and crystal clear lakes. The fact that I live in the Twin Cities myself made this a joy to read because she got all the Minneosta mannerisms dead-on. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did

Just before her departure from Twin Cities to travel to a small town, Cassidy falls hard for a foreigner. She is under the spell of this woman and the only thing she does is stammer and mess up. Ashamed she runs. In her new hometown Embarrass, working as a detective in a small police department, she finds a big surprise. Nothing much happens in Embarrass. She meets new people, doing her nightshift and than there is Julia, a gorgeous woman with two faces. An ice queen, arrogant and not bland at all. Cassidy can't forget her, wants more but Julia doesn't date. There is chemistry, sizzling chemistry but will that be enough? The relationship between the two woman is not an easy relationship. One suffers from nightmares about her time in Afghanistan, struggles with PTSD and not knowing what she wants with her life. The other is full of self confidence, stubborn and takes a lot and gives little. Cassidy's job is not very exciting until she becomes involved in an investigation to money fraud. With the help of Madame prosecutor, Cassidy is on a new mission, searching for the embezzler. As the investigation heats up, the relationship with Julia becomes more painfully. I really enjoyed the plot and the characters. It was an easy read, nice written, exciting and a good romance. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

I really liked this lesbian romance/detective novel! Cassidy Miller (story in first person) and Julia Desjardin both have past histories and issues, and their connection is intense but complicated, like real human beings! I enjoyed the passionate/complex romance intertwined with a humorous but reasonably realistic detective story. Cassidy has been a Marine and served in Afghanistan; the book is told through her eyes and her voice. Why that voice sounds like a man to me I don't know--the character and the writer are female. Whether it's on purpose or by chance, I'll never know, but it certainly is effective in getting my attention as a reader. I've never read a woman character in any book who sounded like this one! I was sorry it had to end, because I had fun with it and couldn't put it down.

I really enjoyed this book! I love the characters:Cassidy is a former Marine & war hero who came back from the war a shell of herself, but she is trying to find herself... and while doing that, she meets Julia! Julia is the most beautiful girl Cassidy has ever seen! Nothing gets to Julia, she doesn't date, she wants to stay unattached.... she's untouchable.... or is she??? I got to the end of this book having no idea there was a Book 2 & 3.... I'm elated!! I just bought both of them!! To be continued......

I'm a little surprised at the fact that this novel doesn't have a 100% 5 stars rating. The characters are fully realized with a depth not often found in romance novels-usually romance stuff is all about how the main characters turn each other on all the time and how ridiculously beautiful everyone is no matter what time of day, but in Lentzski's novel, just as much emphasis is put on the strengths and weaknesses of the characters. Cassidy is dealing with PTSD while Julia grapples with family issues. Cassidy is a bit too trusting of those around her, and Julia takes advantage of that trust. Nobody's perfect in this novel, character flaws and issues aren't immediately fixed, the mains don't instantly start with the 'I love you's, and that all adds a refreshing air of realism to the book.The plot and flow of the novel resembles more literary fiction than romantic or crime novel fiction. The main climax resolves the crime aspect while putting the mains relationship in dire straights.Spoilers here:If you're looking for a romance where at the end of the book all the character's faults and issues are resolved with a happily ever after, this isn't the book for you. Cassidy doesn't get over her PTSD just by being in Julia's romantic clutches (which, let's face it, if that happened, I'd be super pissed because that's not a healthy relationship), Julia does some morally/ethically/lawfully gray s***. There is a sequel, which helps to work towards resolving these issues further.so if you like this book, you're in luck: the story continues.

Another spectacular book from Eliza Lentzski. They just keep getting better and better. I love how vividly she brings characters to life and how her stories keep me wanting more. Even though I’m already a pretty big fan of her writing style, I must say it really shined with this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the push and pull of the characters in DCMH; the hard, but soft ex-marine and the untouchable city prosecutor. The contrasts in the characters and in the storyline had me sucked in from the beginning. The only down side was that the book ended. It’s only been out for a few days and I’ve read it twice! Clearly, a sequel is in order. I need to know what happens! Keep it up, Eliza, You are my hero.
