I've followed Dr. Champ for some time now. The addition of "Misguided Medicine" to his repertoire of other impressive healing work is nothing short of par excellence. I'm the grandson of a surgeon and the son of an internist/psychiatrist while practicing chiropractic in now my fourth decade of practice. Rarely have I seen an allopathic physician get out of his own way to bring health and the dignity of humanity back to health care. Dr. Champ has done this with diligence and courage. A good doctor is good to find and "Misguided Medicine" is "all net" when nailing what has happened and what needs to change in our ailing, sick care system. Thank you, Dr. Champ. You make me want to be a better healer and human being.
This review is for the second edition, which is a substantially improved version of the first edition of this book under the same title. Collin Champ is a practicing oncologist and is unusual in his focus on preventative medicine, nutrition, and exercise. He calls BS on many sacred cows such as the putative hazards of fat consumption, the dangers of salt, etc. The book is well-referenced with solid scientific publications. Highly recommended.
Fast delivery New conditions I enjoy reading. IT only confirms what I was always thinking about I am not a doctor or have some medical education But medicine and doctor's offices in America does not make any common sense to go there A lot of time in waiting room, high co-payments ,after that doctors who do not have time to listen to you only thinking how many money he/she gets today You do no even finished to describe yours conditions/ concern they already taping hundreds prescriptions to pharmacy I completely agree if you do not educate yourself you end up more sick from there pills. I came in America from Russia 20 years ago and like most people observed how many aged have Alzheimer ,Parkinson, mentally sick. Almost all . Why in Russia those who lives long life without home attendants mostly alone not out of the mind completely? Here they taking millions of pills daily and result they do exist long not without someone help but like a ghost , vegetable not able identify who they are and where they are Live only to benefit FDA all system.
As an emeritus professor of comparative pathology from a large mid-western university, I am astounded and delighted with the way Dr. Champ has sifted through the complex, voluminous literature and retrieved major nuggets of truth with out fabricating for simplicity. I have spent 40 years researching and teaching about vascular disease to medical and veterinary students. His treatment of atherosclerosis I find particularly skillful; I had cautioned students back as far as 1977 that the “imbibition theory†of cholesterol as a cause of cardiovascular disease was suspect for lack of scientific proof. His discussion about the dangers of using oil with low smoke points for cooking also should receive a standup applause. Then too, Dr. Champ’s exposé of salt restriction is a truth long overdue. Bravo for this easily read guide to healthful living and self-preservation. My only suggestion is that this excellent book needs an index. Read it, enjoy it and survive!
I gave a mixed review of the first edition: excellent content but badly in need of good editing. With the second edition: problem solved! It is a great read, thoroughly enjoyable. Moreover, it is imminently practical - how do you maintain your health in our crazy culture where nutrition decisions are based on economics of production and medicine has been often reduced from health-care to sick-care? A good starting point is Colin Champ's book. Rigorously sourced, based on the best science, yet shot though with a good dose of humility. Read it, it could change (and likely save) your life.
I had hoped for new information and did not find any. That said, I've been reading paleo/primal/ancestral authors for many years and looking at nearly all the nutritional research out there. So, for me nothing new. More complete coverage of all these ideas is out there (especially Taubes).However, for someone new to these ideas I think this is an excellent book. Readable, referenced, short enough to cover the main points but long enough to explain them thoroughly. Just not from my perspective of having read it all before.
I have been following Dr. Champ's podcast for a while. When I heard he was writing a book I couldn't wait to read it! As a physician myself, I have been focusing on wellness, fitness, and nutrition with my patients. As part-time faculty I have been working hard to teach similar principles to the resident physicians and medical students I teach. This is the kind of book that I would want to write if I had the time. Now the pressure is off because Dr. Champ has already done a far better job than I could have done. I have eagerly shared this book with patients, residents, and premed students. If more people would read and apply the principles taught in this book, we would see a dramatic shift in health. The best way to deal with the chaos and uncertainty of our current healthcare system is to prevent disease and illness whenever possible. Unfortunately the current model focuses on sick care. We need more physicians like Dr. Champ! Doctors who are willing to challenge the misguided recommendations, and false information that have become standard practice in many hospitals and clinics.
Informative and well-researched. Provides the foundation behind the recommendations and the supporting science. Useful for the medical expert as well as the layperson. As a practicing physician who is traveling the same path, and having discovered the same discrepancies within our health recommendations and guidelines, I believe this book brings much needed information to the masses.
